Our Opportunity
Joining our super talented and high performing Accessories team, this newly created and very exciting Junior Buyer role will support our Buyer in selecting and developing a range of innovative and relevant products across our accessories categories that will enable the department to achieve set sales plans, intake margins, planned markdowns and overall gross profit aligned to the Sportsgirl customer profile.
You will LOVE accessories and demonstrate an understanding of fashion trends and support the product development across your category as it relates to the Sportsgirl customer. Your passion, agility and strong organisational skills will be on show as will your sound relationship building and influencing abilities.
This role will have the accountability and ownership of its own category with the view of developing and growing in your role to build from here as well as be the strong support to the Buyer across their key categories.
This is a great opportunity for someone ready to take their next step in their career in owning their own category as well as continuing their development and growth pathway towards becoming a Buyer in time. You will ideally have experience in a high SKU count category and hands-on and fast paced environment which will support your success in this role.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Buy merchandise for your allocated category with oversight from the Buyer
- Display effective analysis of range planning and forecasting, putting forward appropriate recommendations
- Product development and demonstrate an understanding of fashion trends as they relate to the Sportsgirl customer
- Communicate creative input and innovation for all product development as required for Sportsgirl to be first and on trend
- Demonstrate an understanding of product construction materials, ingredients, packaging and their performance durability
- Maintain and develop effective supplier relationships
- Brief supplier base clearly when requesting samples
- Negotiation of costs to ensure best price
- Quality control; review and sign off all development and PP samples to ensure they meet Sportsgirl’s quality standards
- Display an entrepreneurial approach to the business proactively seeking and suggesting opportunities to improve financial performance and maximising sales and profits
- Maintain and develop effective internal relationships
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Fashion/Design/Merchandising diploma or Business/Commerce degree
- Previous experience in the fashion industry as a Buying Assistant or Trainee Buyer
- Understanding of buying and planning principals
- Proven direct sourcing experience
- Understanding of critical path and retail environment
- Knowledge of quality control
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness
- Strong communication skills
- Presentation skills
- Strong relationship building skills
